ANTHRO 125 Language and Culture
Introduction to the anthropological study of language. Examination of nonhuman communication and the origin of language in humans; language acquisition and speech production; nonverbal communication; structure of language; language history and change, and the relationship between language and culture, power, ethnicity, gender, and social stratification.
