A.A.-T and A.S.-T Degree General Information

California Community Colleges, in conjunction with the California State University system, offer a wide range of Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) designed to provide students a clear pathway to a baccalaureate degree at California State University. The Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (Senate Bill 1440), now codified in California Education Code sections 664746-66749, guarantees admission to a California State University (CSU) campus for any community college student who completes an Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) or Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree. These degrees are intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in a similar major at a CSU campus. Students who are awarded an AA-T or AS-T degree are guaranteed admission with junior standing at an institution in the CSU system, given priority admission consideration to their local CSU campus or to a program that is deemed similar to their community college major, and will be required to complete no more than 60 semester or 90 quarter units to earn a baccalaureate degree - majors designated as “high-unit” may require units beyond these markers. This degree may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to particular CSU campuses, or to a university or college that is not part of the CSU system. Students planning to complete an ADT should first consult with a counselor for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.

The following requirements are applicable to the successful completion of all AA-T and AS-T degrees:

  • Completion of 60 CSU-transferable semester units
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 for all CSU-transferable coursework

Note: While a minimum 2.0 GPA is required for admission, some majors may require a higher GPA. Please consult with a counselor for more information.

  • Completion of a minimum of 18 semester units with a “C” grade or better in all courses required as a part of an AA-T or AS-T major, as identified by the college catalog. (Title 5-55063)
  • Certified completion of either the California State University General Education-Breadth pattern (CSU GE Breadth) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern general education requirements, as approved for each major
