First semester of a two semester organic chemistry sequence. Study of modern organic chemistry including structure, nomenclature, reactivity, synthesis and reaction mechanisms. Spectroscopy and modern theoretical concepts studied. Laboratory techniques include multi-step synthesis and characterization of organic molecules using analytical instrumentation and spectroscopic analysis.
