Cal-GETC

2025–2026 California General Education Transfer Curriculum

Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) will permit a student to transfer from a California Community College (CCC) to a California State University (CSU) campus or a University of California (UC) campus or program generally without the need, after transfer, to take additional lower-division general education courses.  All courses must be completed with a "C" or better. ("C-" grades are not acceptable.)   

Acceptable scores on the College Credit for Advanced Placement (AP) Chart and the College Credit for International Baccalaureate (IB) Chart may be used for Cal-GETC certification.

Previously completed CCC courses can only be used for Cal-GETC if they were included on IGETC in 2024-2025 and on Cal-GETC in 2025-2026.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exam scores of 3, 4, and 5 may be used to satisfy Cal-GETC subject areas except Critical Thinking and Composition (1B) and Oral Communication (1C).  Please see the CHC Catalog AP Chart.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Exam scores of 5, 6, and 7 on Higher Level exams may be used to satisfy many Cal-GETC area requirements.  Please see the CHC Catalog IB Chart.

Cal-GETC is meant for new California Community College students, starting in Fall 2025 or later.  Continuing students who started before Fall 2025 may choose this pattern.

CSU: Students who have maintained continuous enrollment at a California Community College or CSU or combination of the two that started before Fall 2025 may use the previous pattern, (CSUGE).  Please see www.assist.org and talk with a Counselor.

UC: Entering UC transfer students may follow the IGETC Standards version current to when they began at a CCC, any subsequent version, or Cal-GETC. This policy applies to any CCC transfer student regardless of continuous enrollment.  Please see www.assist.org and talk with a Counselor.

COMMON COURSE NUMBERING

California Assembly Bill 1111, also known as the "Common Course Numbering" bill, aims to simplify the transfer process for students within the California Community Colleges (CCC) system. The bill requires that CCC courses satisfying similar requirements share the same course number across all CCCs.  The course renumbering will be implemented in phases, allowing time for institutions to align courses gradually.
