Changes to Grading and Withdraw Policy in Response to COVID-19

We understand that COVID-19 has presented challenges to your educational journey and you are learning how to transition to an online environment for instruction and student services. 

We are here to support you in the transition and urge you to utilize Canvas and our Online Student Resources to connect with your faculty, and to speak with your student support services team to discuss your options as you navigate this change. 

In response to COVID-19 crisis, Crafton Hills College:

• Extended its original withdrawal date to May 1^st to allow you time to adjust to an online environment and evaluate your options with your advisors/counselors and instructors. 

• Temporarily updated its grading policies. You are allowed to drop a course(s), between March 4^th – May 1^st to automatically receive a grade of ‘EW’ (Excused Withdrawal). You can use your CHC WebAdvisor account to withdraw from the course(s). The system will automatically assign you a grade of ‘W.’ Your grade will be changed to an ‘EW’ (Excused Withdrawal) by Admissions & Records personnel before the semester ends. At the same time, your account will be adjusted to reflect a refund of fees for any courses dropped with an ‘EW’ grade. 

Please note that students who receive an EW during this period will not experience negative effects on academic progress, academic probation, or ability to repeat a course(s). If you are a financial aid recipient, the federal government passed the CARES Act, which allows withdrawal without repayment issues or Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) consequences, along with several other benefits for financial aid students.

• Students can request a change to the grading basis of their course(s) through the end of the semester. To change your grading option to Pass/No Pass, simply submit the Admissions & Records Staff members using our Online Services to submit the Pass/No Pass Request form.  Financial Aid students will not be adversely affected by opting for Pass/No Pass grading. Note: While the Chancellor’s Office is in discussion with the CSU’s and UC’s, the potentially adverse transfer implication of a pass or no-pass grading option remain in effect. Students taking Honors courses will not receive Honors credit. In addition, choosing the P/NP option may have a negative impact on some certificates and degrees.
