Veterans Services

Educational Benefits

Crafton Hills College is approved for the training of veterans and eligible dependents. After completing an application for admission, a veteran should submit a DD-214 Member 4 and a copy of their Certificate of Eligibility Letter to the Veterans' Resource Center (VRC) located in CNTL-150. Eligible dependents are also required to submit their Certificate of Eligibility Letter to the VRC.

In order to use their GI Bill®, students are required to choose a major and enroll in classes required for that major. Failure to take proper classes may lead to a reduction or termination of benefits. Official transcripts from all previous schools and colleges must be submitted to Admissions and Records Office for evaluation before the end of the student’s first term of attendance.

In order to receive benefits, veterans and dependents must submit an electronic Request for Veteran's Education Benefits form to the VRC at the beginning of each semester. It is the veteran’s responsibility to promptly notify the School Certifying Official (SCO) of any change of program through our Enrollment Status for Certification form.

Veterans who serve more than one (1) year of active duty and did not receive a dishonorable discharge will be awarded seven (7) units of credit for health and physical education by submitting a copy of their DD214 Member 4 to the VRC.

If the student receives an “F” or “W” grade for non-attendance, the student may be required to repay the VA from the last reported attendance date. Veterans or dependents on academic and/or progress probation for two (2) consecutive semesters may not be certified for the following semester. Visit the VRC for additional details.

Unit requirements for Chapter 33 (Post 9/11), Chapter 30 (Montgomery GI), Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation), Chapter 35 (Dependents’ Educational Assistance), Chapter 1606 (Montgomery - Selected Reserve; Educational Assistance), or Chapter 1607 (REAP) are as follows:

Veterans Payment and Priority Registration Policy

In accordance with 38 U.S. Code 3679 (e), all mandatory tuition and fees will be waived for students receiving Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI Bill®) or Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation) benefits.

Only approved courses corresponding to a student’s declared program will be certified for payment of benefits.

Chapter 33 and 31 qualifying students will not be penalized due to any outstanding financial obligations to the institution.

All veterans whom have received an Honorable Discharge on their DD-214 member 4, will receive Priority A registration for each term of attendance.

Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act

The 2014 Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act (VACA), requires state institutions to waive non-resident related fees for veterans who have been discharged within three (3) years. Veterans must be approved by the VA for the Montgomery, Post 9/11, or Vocational Rehabilitation benefits and utilize those benefits to have non-resident costs waived.
