ETHS 165 African-American Literature

This course is a comprehensive examination of African-American literature, including prose, poetry, and fiction, from the early oral tradition to present. The course also incorporates understanding of the cultural trends and time periods and their relationships to literature. Students analyze the literature and apply critical theory to describe critical events in the histories, cultures, and intellectual and literary traditions, with special focus on the lived experiences, social struggles, and contributions of African Americans in the United States. This course is also offered as ENGL 165.
