A student receiving a certificate in this field will be able to:

  • Demonstrate language proficiency in Spanish at an intermediate level; demonstrate appropriate knowledge of some cultural differences between English speakers and Spanish speakers in regard to social interactions, beliefs, and values; demonstrate knowledge of some of the major events that have affected relationships between the United States and Spanish-speaking nations; recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino luminaries to literature, art, music, politics, and science; demonstrate knowledge of the contributions to the Spanish language from Arabic and from indigenous languages of America.
